  • Two more credits showed up, courtesy of Geico (that's six for the week--not bad).
  • Geico just gave me one, but it was enough to finish Freddie Hubbard's Blue Spirit
  • I got 2...I clicked through to the Geico Youtube page last time, wonder if that could have made any difference??
  • I also only had one. One is better than none!

Currently working my way through Relaxin' With the Miles Davis Quintet.

  • Did anyone else get 31 downloads labeled 'September Promo'?
  • Affirmative. How 'bout that?
  • Is it listed as a channel or what? Cause I got diddly squat here...
  • edited September 2010
Yes, right under the "Demo Channel."

edit: The plot thickens...I see them under a Blue Note album I have been checking regularly, but not under an ECM album I just looked up.
  • Interesting. I see them when I search for Wire, but not when I look at the Miles Davis Quintet album I've been working on.

Guess I'll get Pink Flag after all!

    Craig
  • Are the 31 only for EMI group labels?
  • Ah, good call Craig. I clicked on the EMI promo on front and selected one of the songs listed. Sure enough, 31 credits. Can't finish the Badi Assad album I was going through (on Verve), but I'm sure I can find something else.
  • I clicked on the emi promo, got the 31 credits for emi recordings. It is, however, a terrible interface for finding anything. I was hoping for some jazz titles, but there does not seem to be a "search by genre" function. Am I wrong?

I did run across Mozart Clarinet Concerto & Quintet by the Britten Quartet. Three tracks.
  • Use the label search on Amazon. BTW, Blue Note is EMI.

Indeed, I have burned 20 credits on Blue Note already today: Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter, Thad Jones (actually, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis big band).

Yes, the search is dreadful. I have been searching for what I want on Amazon, then going to Guvera to DL. To get all tracks on Wayne Shorter's "Speak No Evil," I had to mix and match all the "1999 RVG" versions on this Guvera artist search page.

Guvera is starting to annoy me....I appreciate 31 downloads. Free is always accepted. However....not to be an ingrate:

Art Blakey -A Night At Birdland, Vol1 RVG, three tracks, it is 8 tracks on Amazon, and is only $3.68. Vol 2 is also short tracks, although not as cheap on Amazon. The announcement tracks are missing, but so are other tracks.

Wayne Shorter - Soothsayer on Guvera has five tracks, but on Amazon has seven tracks.

Those are the first two I tried, I wonder how many albums are incomplete?
  • Plong42 - I've noticed that sometimes when things don't all fit on one page it just doesn't list everything. Try searching by title for the tracks that are missing.

    Craig
  • Also, Guvera has a bad habit of deleting doubles of any track, even if it's on different albums - i.e., the greatest hits album might be complete, but then those hits are often missing from the listing for the original album that they appeared on.

You need to search by track name for the missing tracks, and then change the tags.

What frog said...that's exactly why I had to cobble together the tracks for "Speak No Evil".

See this page: https://www.guvera.com/search?q=album_id:+%225099996529850%22 I think the 2 tracks you are missing are there.

Maybe it's the Shorter specifically that's messed up, because here's the page for the RVG edition of "Mode for Joe": https://www.guvera.com/search?q=album_id:+%22724358090956%22 The title track is tagged as being on a comp, but it seems to be the same RVG remaster. Works fine, as long as they put all the tracks together.
  • Well, I had feared my unused "Sept promo credits" would disappear overnight...but in fact the opposite happened!
  • Holy hell. 31 more credits?

That HAS to be a glitch.

    Craig
  • Well I finally went back to guvera last night and thanks to the promos and some other old credits that had been sitting around I got Here Come the Warm Jets and Chairs Missing, plus finished up Scott 3 - those errors that were hanging me up before seem to have disappeared.

Now a fresh 31! I only wish I'd used up the 31 I had yesterday, but it took me most of an hour to use up what I did.
  • I'm bummed I didn't use them yesterday... But I don't have a back log of EMI releases to quickly d/l yet.. Time to use them all up this morning!
  • I used up my 31 credits on the XTC 2-disc singles collection, which happens to be 31 tracks. Then I logged in this morning to see a fresh 31. Yes, Guvera is a pain in the a$$, but I'll deal with it.
  • Right now someone in Guvera HQ is say, "How the fuck do we market to someone who downloads Kylie Minogue and then Kraftwerk?"
  • edited September 2010
Quick note: Sugar Hill and Vanguard artists don't come up on the EMI portal, but they albums seem to be covered by the 31 credits.

New Order imitated Kraftwerk on Power, Corruption and Lies. Kylie Minogue covered Blue Monday. Two degrees!
  • I'll go one further, here's part of the description for Fever on Amazon: "Kylie Minogue's sound has progressed again since the disco-inspired Light Years, plundering the retro style of post-disco electro from the late 1970s and showing what might have happened if Kraftwerk had produced Donna Summer or Chic."
  • I see no evidence that Guvera HQ pays any attention to what anyone is doing. The fact that there isn't a log listing what we've previously downloaded is ridiculous.

I think I need to snag that Massive Attack Singles Collection they have listed.

    Craig
  • The fact that there isn't a log listing what we've previously downloaded is ridiculous.

Yah, they are never going to have any member features like that. The fact that DLs can magically appear, then disappear if you don't use them, is probably a good illustration of what we can expect from this site. You get in, look at an ad, DL your Katy Perry song, and nobody owes nobody nothing. And they're not pirates.

Today I have got 2 new Blue Notes, working on "Skylarking"...
  • There's another twist on "missing tracks": Street Hassle, a Lou Reed cover on Sparkle in the Rain (yep, I have it, and it's great) is completely missing from Guvera. Perhaps the copyright issues prevented its inclusion.
  • Too bad they don't have user charts. I'd love to see how many Blue Note artists magically appear up there.
