BigD, I've been doing the same thing. Got the bonus tracks from several CDs I already had (OK Computer, The Bends, Space Oddity 40th), plus a cool XTC rarities box. I don't think I'll have trouble keeping this going thru the end of the month.
For those looking for more Blue Note, check out Of Peace and Love by Larry Young. It came just after unity, and is a bit more relaxed. Young even seems to reintegrate a little Jimmy Smith back into his playing, and there's a lot of wonderful Dolphy-inspired flute.
From a Guvera e-mail: Check out the new channel giving you more music goodness! For a limited time only, we're going to bump up your credit, so you can download ALL the music you want from this channel! But hurry up - it wont last!
so you can download ALL the music you want from this channel!
Mind. Numb.
Today's tally:
Asleep at the Wheel's A Tribute to Bob Wills and the Plaboys
Larry Young's Into Somethin'
Crime and the City Solution's Paradise Discoteque
I tried that too, it's obviously on a times of some sort since they refresh overnight.
Note the link to suggest bands on the left - if you give 3 suggestions they add 4 more credits. But don't do it until you've spent down some credits - 31 looks like some sort of max and you will lose the 4 credits if you're already topped off.
Mine refreshes sometime between 1 AM EST/EDT and 5 AM EST/EDT. I've been able to use my credits after midnight and still had the full 31 once my little girl woke me up shortly after 5 AM.
Now that I realize their US office is in NYC, I'll stop pushing the time so late. But it's possible that they do the same thing as Amazon and eMusic do and not switch things until later in the evening to account for the West Coast.
Sigh. No I don't. When I was in college/law school I just didn't have the money/time to keep up with things, so a lot of late 90s to mid 00s slipped through the cracks for me.
My EMI discoveries of the day: LCD Soundsystem, Liars, N.W.A., Japan (Tin Drum), more Eno albums, and Music from Big Pink by the Band. Although it's hard to resist stocking up on more Beach Boys.
@Craig - The Three E.P.s is such a fantastic album. Personally I wasn't that thrilled with Hot Shots - I seem the recall the second half was significantly better. I actually preferred the King Biscuit Time album (at the very least get "I Walk the Earth") to that one. Steve Mason's solo debut this year was really good, too.
@amclark2 - I keep hoping the new LCD Soundsystem shows up because I got the other 2 on sale at Lala (R.I.P.). Any recs regarding the Liars?
Got Grant Green's Grant's First Stand(RVG Remaster), and followed Grant onto a nice album called Blue Guitar with other tracks by Jim Hall, Jimmy Shirley, and Sal Salvador amongst others. And there are a lot of UFO albums.
I reversed the albums in my head. The s/t was the one that was a mess IMO. The whole thing gets off on a bad step with that terrible rap that opens it. Hot Shots II was actually a good album - focused more on their indie electronic/trip-hop feel. But it slipped through the cracks for me. Never get the same play as 3 E.P.s (but little has).
Argg! The propensity to leave out tracks ruined my planned dls for the day--too many Nick Cave albums lacked key tracks. So my tally seems a little grassier and jazzier today:
Donald Byrd, Electric Byrd
Andrew Hill, Dance with Death
Tim O'Brien, Red on Blonde
Jerry Douglas, Slide Rule (missing one track)
Buddy Hutchersons, Now! (first few tracks, which are scattered all over the place)
Now is such a great album. It's the first Hutcherson album I ever owned. Got it at a record sale for a college station that changed formats. It's one of those records I always played to blow someone's mind. Always works.
Oh, I tried! Boatman's Call is missing three tracks. One is on the Shrek 2 soundtrack on Dreamworks, which isn't part of the EMI promotion, but I could wait for regular credits to get it. Green Eyes I could live without. Lime Tree Arbour isn't anywhere, and it's not on Amazon either. Frustrations!
I had that problem with a Goldfrapp track - "Beautiful" was on the soundtrack for one of those Old Hags on the Prowl movies. Have to wait for regular credits. I'm just confused that a Nick Cave track is on the Shrek 2 soundtrack. WTF? I was surprised that Let Love In was there in its entirety considering "Red Right Hand" was on about 50 soundtracks in the 90s.

I ran it down to 0 to see if it would reload, but nothing yet. Maybe over the weekend. Not that I am complaining, mind you!

I know what I'm getting tonight!

Did you notice that it appears that all N.W.A. tracks are edited? Not sure if it matters to you, but it does to me so I thought I'd point it out.
