Wild ride. Peter Margasak had a long write-up on Dave Rempis this month

Eta, plenty more wildness on that Astral Spirits Bandcamp page

Many thanks Doofy. Amazing to think that this was recorded less than 48 hours ago!  I can hear it on my computer in the UK, played in the Sahel, via Seattle, and goodness knows where the Bandcamp server is. This would have been unthinkable twenty years ago.

  • The first ever release on the ECM subsiduary JAPO - Mal Waldron's The Call
    very 1971.
    Mal Waldron - electric piano
    Jimmy Jackson - organ
    Eberhard Weber - electric bass
    Fred Bracful - drums

Some wonderful work by Weber and Waldron is a million miles away from his Billie Holiday association.

  • Rainy Bank Holiday misery here so trying to fight back firstly with this

I'm not sure why the loveable mop tops are asking for help; are they stuck on that Farfisa organ?

    Susumu Yokota - Dreamer
    Release date: 30 March 2018

‘Dreamer’ is instantly familiar and yet full of surprises and like all of Yokota’s best music it leaves the listener in a state of wonder.

Eastern flavours permeate many of the tracks, often mixed with free electronic noise to create what John Hassell called ‘fourth world music’, capable of transporting the listener to a brand new world. Sounds that in other hands could have a disturbing effect are transformed into tools for opening the mind.

Yokota’s music never sounds forced, fake or phoney, never trite, tired or tentative, always fully formed and wholesome. So it comes as no surprise that his fans include Thom Yorke, Brian Eno and Philip Glass and that ‘Dreamer’ is another superb addition to the Yokota catalogue.

  • Still fighting the weather

So now at least I know what a Posaune is, thank you rain!
