Forgot how much I adore this album, charming throwback to 70's singer-songwriters.

    - A gorgeous ambient album, previously released by the no longer existing Russian Electrosound netlabel, now on Silent Flow.
  • elwood crankin' thru albums. kudos for the 2562 disc.

on a side note, i'm pleased to see what appears to be a dramatic increase in traffic on emusers. it comes at a good time, since i'm bummed about the state of the emusic message boards.

@Daniel, still haven't slept. By my tally its been ~31 hours since I slept and I've been working full out, with the exception of raking my roof and building a hobo tent around my oil tank in the hopes to keep the oil above 8F this morning, since 4PM yesterday. Shoot me. Shoot me now.

  • good grief! insomnia or work-project?
  • Work project. Brutal work project. I truly loathe major releases, I liked it much better when we released early, fast, and frequent; these 6 month runs to a single rollout are the donkey's ass. :-S
  • sounds fascinating. i emphathize; when i need to write a long document, especially when i have writers-block, i wind up working round-the-clock for days.

is this a film or music or publication, if i may ask? (feel free to tell me to GTFO if it's confidential, obv.)

I've been working for the past 3+ years for an Internet startup in the financial sector, we provide personal finance and marketing tools for small banks and credit unions. I'm their essentially their sysadmin though I carry a fancy-pants title. We've started to hit hockey stick growth so the job is getting hardy from a daily operations perspective but I'm slated to pick up my first hire in March and likely my second by July. But this weekend is one of those times where I'm thinking I'm 12 years past my prime for this game, body just doesn't bounce back as fast. I'm sure come Monday I'll feel different though. ;-)

    Mellow.
  • sounds interesting. i don't bounce back as quickly now (at 43, next month) as i used to, either. glad to hear they're getting you help. we've just hired another associate too. i don't think i use our associates especially well, but i'm learning out of necessity. this year has been brutal so far with new work.
  • Yeah, this will be an interesting development opportunity for me. I've been a lone wolf for much of my career and my soft skills are closer to broken glass on gravel so I have some polishing to do so that my "department" can operate smoothly and efficiently (and I can get sleep more often).

@Daniel - Things We Lost in The Fire is one of the most painfully beautiful albums I've ever heard. Glad to see the board is thriving at a time when I've been frequently away from it for days.

If Amie Street re-opened tomorrow I would burn through a few hundred dollars in a matter of hours on a number of back catalogs for fear of missing out on gems like this...

This is breathtaking piece of ambient/drone, skillfully mastered by Rafael Anton Isarri.

    Thanks much, Germanprof.

    Just been listening to:

An Ark For The Listener by Philip Jeck

Brighternow, you recommended this to me a couple of months back, and I finally bought it. It is indeed excellent - thanks! It led me back to:

    300x300.jpg

Transcriptions by Stephan Mathieu + Taylor Deupree

    - there are some similarities in methodology and at times tone, as it is also based on electronic manipulations of old physical recording media. It's good too. Good listening sequence after the Jeck.
Step one: Stephan Mathieu transcribed old 78 rpms and wax cylinders to digital audio, treating the signal in real time. Step two: Taylor Deupree added his own sonics, mainly analog synths and acoustic strings. The result is a gorgeous piece of work shimmering with the surface noise of those old recordings (and that is pretty much all we hear of them) and the quiet tones of Deupree's contributions.

  • @greg, I can highly recommend Disc 2 of the recent "Legacy Edition" of Take Five, which features live takes by the Brubeck group from that era. 8 tracks @0.49 at eMusic.

@doofy - thanks for the rec. Unfortunately it is not on emuisc over here, although a lot of earlier Dave Brubeck recodings are available. In Europe, copyright genreally lasts 50 years, so anything before 1960 can easily be re-issued. There are attempts to change it, not unrelated to the fact that Beatles recordings will soon, under current laws, become available to all websites. I'll check elsewhere later to see if I can find it. But looking did remind me of this album - I was in the audience when it was recorded! I had to find the CD - I must put it on itunes...

@greg, if you ever get a chance to hear those tracks, you'll enjoy. It is interesting/revealing to hear them stretch out as a working band.

Meanwhile, I'm just afraid some of you guys aren't liberated yet, and if not, here is what it sounds like (Or at least what it sounded like in 1972 in Philadelphia):

Pietro Grossi was born in Venice, and he studied in Bologna at the taking a diploma in composition, and violoncello. In the sixties Grossi teaches at the Conservatory of Florence and begins the research and the testing in the electroacoustic music. From 1936 to 1966 he was the first cellist of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino orchestra. Grossi began to experiment with electroacoustic music in the 1950s. By 1962, he had become the first Italian to carry out successful research in the field of computer music.
In 1963, he turned his interest to electronic music and founded the S 2F M (Studio di Fonologia Musicale di Firenze) which made its headquarters in Florence at the Conservatorio, and he also became a lecturer in this subject.
    - Excellent !
