@Dr Mutex - IMO Bowie's earlier albums have really stood the test of time from initial release. There are not many artists whose recordings from 40 years ago could have been made now.
greg, I didn't get Hunky Dory until last year - I was sparked by the American remake of the British TV show Life On Mars - which sank without a trace for whatever - but Amazon had it for $3.68 at the time, and I agree it is remarkably fresh and strange in a good way. Andy Warhol immediately made it into my Favorite Bowie playlist, the acoustic guitars on that track sound immense.
Thanks, BN - I think you posted the album also when it came out; listening to this made my mind up. Great stuff.
BEWARE ANYONE WHO WANTS TO BUY THIS ON EMUSIC US. They have the album listed twice, once for $4.90 and once for $6.99. I am even now grabbing the $4.90 version based on a pessimistic theory of which one might disappear.
Hey everyone, *listen to Brighternow*, this is a wonderful album!! Listen to the single he linked above, especially if you like jazz and/or electronic music. Jonah, how about these guys on your daily download?
You know, I've never been big on reggae, but the combined heat index of 105 degrees here the other day may have contributed to my checking out - and quite enjoying - your rec of the Heart of the Congos album you were praising over on emu.
very glad to read this!
oh man, HOTC is seriously one of the greatest pop albums ever released, and it's criminally overlooked. perfect album for the summer heat.
@brighternow, thanks for the heads up on Examples of Twelves, I was totally unaware that the last album in the series had dropped. Happily picked it up from Bandcamp for the steal of $3.26USD.
I've been getting my $0.00 worth out of my Spotify trial. Bastards are likely to get me hooked. The Spotify links allegedly take you to the album if you have Spotify installed.

Craig, I think it's safe to presume I'm not going to buy any of the albums I've been playing on Spotify, give tn that I've had 20-30 years to mull over the purchase.

Overlook the mention of Kennington at the start of their debut album and you might assume the Fruitful Earth were from the other side of the Atlantic, and perhaps a few decades back, rather than present-day south London. A big, jaunty piano sits at the fore of each track, inviting Elton John and Carole King comparisons, and frontwoman Sarah Blair sings things such as: "I'm a blind-faith believer, I'm on a road to open up my mind." The songwriting is solid, until Blair tries her hand at protest lyrics: "War Song" and "Human Nature" have their hearts in the right place but deal in awkward generalities.
edit - I'm really enjoying this as I play it, now near the end. I may even have to download the other album as it is so good! Do look at BN's thread to find out more
Minus Pilots - "We won't be here forever" - Futurerecordings 2010
"Sparse bass, delay, delay, delay, delay, delay, delay, gentle crackle...
The crackle present on our recordings is due, in the main, to the use of various analogue delay pedals, old basses, our broken four-track cassette tape recorder and most notably our incompetence.
All of our recordings are designed for listening through headphones while gazing at the stars..." minuspilots.com

So far every Deaf Center release has been a thing of perfection, music that makes me stop and notice it and be thankful.
