We use a Roku box. It allows us to stream our Netflix subscription straight through our tv. It also has some other programming channels. For instance, if we had an instant Amazon account, of Hulu Plus, we could watch that stuff on our tv, too. There's also a variety of public domain channels, music (we can listen to Pandora thru our Roku), and misc. games.
It became helpful after we canceled our cable subscription. Netfilx (via the Roku box tool) became our new tv programming entity.
Roku boxes might have other functionality of which I'm net yet aware, but that's the basic rundown.
Pierre-Yves Mace's Circulations for $3.56 Excellent electronic/classical music. I think someone on here or back on Emu rec'd this or at least Mace in a great post about electronic music.
First thanks to Plong42 for mentioning this album in the Listening thread because that made me look it up, even though I thought I must have these songs from the 60's masters set I snagged back at eMu (EDIT - Woohoo, since this was recorded in 1973 I had none of it - you say Stax I just think 60's). However, there's the Deluxe package, and if you go to the MP3 page - Elvis At Stax Deluxe Edition - notice in the upper right it says you can order the CD for $10.97 (that being the single disc version) but I wondered if I bought that might I get the 55 song deluxe edition AutoRipped to my Cloud Player - uh huh, uh huh. This happened with a Miles Live in Europe release too a while ago. So, I got the 55 songs downloaded, and the CD's on the way which I intend to gift to someone. Thank you very much.
David Foster Wallace, Infinite Jest, only $1.99 today in the Kindle Store. Not many better deals on a "cost per page" scale, you can decide if it is great literature, or an infinite jest.
Cecil Taylor Unit, Dark to Themselves, one track about an hour of music, 99 cents. All the other long-track Cecil Taylor Unit albums are full price. Also, Cecil Taylor, Ola Iwa is $1.78 for two long tracks.
Not Amazon, but 7digital US - Thought some would like to know they have Janelle Monae and Arctic Monkeys for $5, among others. Always worth checking for price on new pop stuff.
Bill Callahan's latest album, Dream River is $7.92 on iTunes, a dollar cheaper than Amazon. His music is not on eMusic or Spotify, perhaps it's a Drag City Label thing.
When Amazon MP3 launched 6 years ago, we had over 2 million songs for sale. Now we have over 26 million songs, and over 2.8 million albums. And we've put thousands of those albums on sale for $6 this week: http://amzn.to/15mceDC
A lot of the usual, plenty that's good. Will purchase/post a few later...
"Thousands" is too many to pay attention to, especially at that price - can't even be bothered to plow through them on the off-chance there is something I like lurking in there.
I went through about 50 pages, GP, so a little over a quarter. It's almost solely crap. In all those pages there were only 2 or 3 things that made me even pause my skimming.
The thing that really irks me, though, is that it looks like most of Grimes' catalog is on there, but her stuff is all Free/NYOP on Bandcamp.
My quick survey of the albums on the main sale page show $6.49 Emusic pricing (Prism by Dave Holland was $6.99, Pretty Hate Machine was $5.39 - but there may be a deluxe edition I was too lazy to check). Anyway...not blown away by savings and with the Emu booster pack sale (double downloads), $6.49 becomes $3.25 for Amy Winehouse, Steely Dan, Tamela Mann, the Old Crow Medicine Show, etc.
I dove down a little but didn't see much that I thought might not be at Emusic. Certainly, $6.00 isn't fantastic for a sale price compared to old sales. Lana Del Ray can currently be had for $3.99 at Amazon, and Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke (well, one configuration of it) is $5.99. The "Anniversary Sale" has pricing worse than their 100 for $5 and some newer pop albums like the two I mentioned.
Sort of unrelated, but Appalchian Excitation by Arnold Dreyblatt and Megafaun, a thing I could see some people here being interested in is currently $2.99

Cheers.
We use our Roku for Netflix and Amazon Prime. Between the two we can watch pretty much whatever we want.
Of course most of what 'we' want is Thomas the Tank Engine and similar things.

Edit - 10:22ET $3.05 discount a deal? Bah Humbug, Amazon.

Neither is on eMu, as it happens. I may go back and get Kenny Burrell's 'Round Midnight, which is on Fantasy.
