Now I'll have to replay Repeat and see if Graphic/Varispeed is the same version as the 33 RPM. It is 4 seconds longer according to iTunes. Thanks again!
^^ Yep, 4 seconds longer. I guess I missed the 2011 album first time through. As I've really enjoyed what I've heard so far, I was happy to add a new one to the library. Tomutonttu
Really just intended to listen to opening track "Tanya" (arguably one of the greatest bop tracks ever recorded), but wound up listening to the whole thing.
Then got a quick listen in solely for "My Favorite Things":
If you're looking for a last-minute Bandcamp Friday rec, try this one:
Medeiros/Lucas - "Sol de Março"
It's been languishing in my library for awhile. It's a 2017 release, and I think I requested it when the Lovers & Lollipops label reached out to me about a current releases, and I poked around their BC label page and said, hey, send a digital promo of this one, too. It just came on because it followed directly after the McCoy Tyner recording. It's got a real Vinicius Cantuária vibe to it. I'm really enjoying it. It's bright and cheerful and catchy and tuneful.
Re-release of the album which MARC WEISER (RECHENZENTRUM, zeitkratzer) and JÜRGEN HENDLMEIER (producer for THE FLAMING SIDEBURNS, THEE ULTRA BIMBOOS) created as ARURMUKHA. With the use of soundbites, field recordings, and stylistically diverse tracks, they reprocess the eviction of 13 squats on Mainzer Straße in Berlin-Friedrichshain in November 1990, forming it into an acoustic scenography in the style of the "Maifestspiele" by EINSTÜRZENDE NEUBAUTEN.
14.11.2020 marks the 30th anniversary of the clearing of 13 squats on Mainzer Straße in Berlin-Friedrichshain. The violent confrontation between the police and about 500 squatters, involving armored vehicles, helicopters, and 10 water cannons, was the biggest police operation in Berlin's post-war history, with 4000 officers deployed, and is deemed to be the last big "battle" of left-wing squatters in Germany. The insert for the LP provides a detailed chronicle of the events (taken from the book "Berlin Mainzer Straße: Wohnen ist wichtiger als das Gesetz [Berlin Mainzer Straße: Housing is more important than the law]", published in 1992 by Basis-Druck).
An alternate version of I Digress that differs from the original that
you can check out on Ostrich Von Nipple's album "Contemplates the
Cosmos". This version first appeared on an early and extremely hard to
find compilation from 2010 called "Offers a Hodgepodge". This was track
11.
This is a mostly unreleased track that was part of the "Offers a
Hodgepodge" sampler CD given away at a series of OVN/Shitty Bedford
shows billed as "Captain Wimwam's Buffoonicus Spectaculus". This album
contained some tracks that you have heard eventually on albums, and some
that we are yet to hear..
I've always loved the story (true or false!?) that Iron Butterfly were so high that they sang "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" instead of "In The Garden Of Eden" and didn't know how to stop playing so went on jamming for over 17 minutes!
@peterfrederics - I love that story, can quite believe it. That album takes me back virtually five decades when I was a student. In thise days you didn't have access to the range of music you have today, so we played this regularly, at times continuously. I'll search it out later.
