"For Anton Vishio" (2019) is a composition for clarinet,
flute, and piano. Anton Vishio is a composer, theorist, and pianist who
was, to me, a kindred spirit - not only through his curiosity and
celebration of new music that has and remains very important to me and
work, but also through his uncanny ability to connect music of the past
with what is happening now. He remains a dear friend, and this piece is
dedicated to him.
For anonymity purposes, I will not name the
incredible performers of this composition (unless they want to be
identified, in which case I will list who they are...!) and its date of
premiere. This is only for your ears.
This is the 1981 version that begins with the track "Run Right Back." Years later there was a rerelease (under the name Anthony Moore, with two o's) that began with the title track and replaced some tracks with alternate versions that lacked the edgy brilliance of the originals. Have been trying to track down the 1981 version for years, now it seems to be available for streaming. Haven't been able to find out what label released this...

Anyway, about 5 years ago, I was part of a performance in Köln with a interview/talk session afterwards. There was an interesting fellow that asked me some questions during the Q&A and I didn't think much past answering his interesting questions about performance practices, etc. Later, I was told by a friend there that it was Anthony Moore!
As well as his work with Slapp Happy and other projects, I've always had a soft spot for this 7" I got as a promo delivered to my house in 1976:
Pretty remarkable that he recently turned 60 and seems if anything to be speeding up and turning out some of his best material. Too soon to judge this one, released today (enjoyable on first listen) but between solo, Neal Morse Band, Morse/Portnoy/George, and Flying Colors I have lost count of how many albums he has put out in the last two years alone, several of them doubles. And there's supposed to be a new Transatlantic album in production too.
