^^Thanks again, most enjoyable. After another great day in the garden and stopping the random play, I realized that my last booster is about to run out on Sept 29th. I've still got over $100 to spend before it flips over, so it's off to the wish lists. Vanessa Rodrigues

This new CD by Montreal organist Vanessa Rodrigues is a witty and very musical compilation of seven original compositions and one arrangement of Herbie Hancock's classic, Watermelon Man.
In answer to the musical question of one of the vocal track titles, "What's In This?" (a personal favourite), this is a well-balanced musical meal. It is certainly not just another organ CD however jazz organ afficionados will not be dissappointed. The original instrumental tracks Funky Pickle, Chompy, Ode To Monsanto, and Eater's Manifesto highlight Ms. Rodrigues' skill as a jazz organist, complemented by solid and funky rhythm work provided by drummer Jean-Pierre Levesque, and guitarist Olivier Rene-de-Cotret. The guitar playing on this CD evoked for me the exhuberance of rock iconoclast Frank Zappa at his best. A further dimension setting this recording apart from more 'straight ahead' organ jazz albums is the creative use of percussion, both acoustic and electronic (turntable scratching provided by DJ Killa-Jewel). The arrangement of Watermelon Man nods to the original however starts with an almost humorous conversation between the 'flute' line and robotic synth voice.
PS- I had to restart, forgot that random play button.
Was just thinking myself about revisiting some Vic Chesnutt, and those two albums were the ones I had in mind. Even though it's been forever since I listened to About to Choke, I still finding myself singing "New Town" to myself.
@jonahpwll - When I think of all the songs of his that I've heard, Little Vacation always pops up first. Those early albums were my favourites but At The Cut comes close. Vic Chesnutt
Something new and different. Adult Swim, part of Cartoon Network (I think), has posted this new compilation of jazz by artists including Yazz Ahed, Christian Scott, Colin Stetson, Angel Bat Dawid, and others. Looks fantastic, just started listening. Not downloadable/for sale anywhere, as far as I can see
How can I possibly describe the music of Vincent Bergeron? A surreal French cabaret? Pierrott Lunaire on acid? The only thing I’m sure of is that you have never heard anything like it before. Bergeron, as well as I can understand it, takes sound samples from practically everything, cut them up is small pieces, and pastes them together in a sort of sound mosaic. Then he adds his own voice, which itself has a eerie but charming quality, and cuts that up to fit his instrumental creation. All of this is assembled into a well structured lyrical composition. This is some of the most original music I’ve heard in a long time. In today’s terms, this is beyond bizarre. In the future, it will probably be called brilliant.
Lowlife - where did you get the Norah Jones album from, please? I coud only find a DVD on Amazon.
I must admit, I am currently about to listen to soccer - Chelsea v Crystal Palace. I played this earlier, after reading an article about his house being put up for sale
Greg, the Norah Jones came from a friend so will have to check where its from, thought it was a legal release. Will not talk about yesterday, a bit of a freak result.
Listening to BBC 6 music yesterday and this came up
