@greg just love that the Chicago Transit Authority s/t album (I have always thought that it is their best) and so funny about how they had to change their name at the insistence of the actual Chicago Transit Authority!
"Listen", "South Californian Purples" and their cover version of the Spencer Davis Group's song "I'm a Man" are outstanding.
Think I may have picked up on this one via a BC Daily feature. I've loved music from Zanzibar since I first heard compilations some years back; the singing, instrumentation and production here are all wonderful IMHO.
Newvelle Records began as a subscription vinyl service - I think six releases a year, all first rate in both musical and recording quality and all jazz. Now most (all?) of the vinyl is available individually and a few are being released digitally through BandCamp and the Newvelle site. Released on digital today is Billy Lester's From Scratch. Lester at age 70+ is less well-known than he should be with just 6 releases mostly on obscure labels over nearly 40 years- but that appears to be more his choice than the system working against him https://www.npr.org/2021/01/28/961290410/lost-and-found-in-yonkers-the-billy-lester-story. The digital release of From Scratch has a bonus 5 tracks.
After a bit of an accident listening to this has helped with the healing. Sea Olenea - Shallow. Free download on Bandcamo, rest of her music is NYOP
Like others, Thanks for the heads-up. As it is Still Free at Bandcamp it was only fair to make a donation for her other albums. It's always nice to have something to help the healing.
Ended up falling for the "complete discography "of this Ukranian producer. Some releases I like better than others, this is one of the better ones for dark ambience. I've not seen the David Lynch film which inspired it.
Omnibus s/t Heavy Psych album from 1970. The tracks “Man Song” and “Shake It Off” are well worth a listen whilst the others are a bit take it or leave it.
This has to be one of the best misses of the 80s. It reached #65 on the UK charts (where only the top 40 really counted), which was their peak chart performance, but remains a favorite of mine from the synthpop era.
I had very modest hopes for this. I have every loscil release, and especially loved his sound on the string of albums from First Narrows through Endless Falls. Since then I have kept up with every release and heard things I liked a fair bit but also found them at times a bit more hit and miss, a but less impactful. This is advertised as a collection of incidental pieces from the vault that were composed to accompany dance. loscil's occasional collections of sundries have not always seemed to me to be his best material. Having said all of that, I am loving this new one. Really great stuff - the distinctive loscil sound at its best. There's a Part 2 coming - looking forward to that now.
@Germanprof - good call on Fiat Lux: really should have been more successful than they were.
I'm currently on a sleazy disco-house tip via all the releases by Sworn Virgins [another project of Clams Baker of Warmduscher] - all Bandcamp Friday purchases.
