Included in a new batch of things that came in from a favorite distributor in Japan are some recordings of a young composer named Kenta Masuda who customizes already existing instruments (ex: a valved instrument) and those not considered instruments (ex: a bicycle). "19 Cycles" is kind of an extension of Richard Lerman's "Travelon Gamelon"<sic>(or some may remember Zappa playing a bicycle on the Steve Allen show in 1963). Starting this morning with these two (the first one is already sold out):
This band is mostly former students of mine, give it a listen on Bandcamp. It is interesting, not at all what I expected from them. Some rock/pop with some strange dramatic concept album segues.
Continuing this series listening to albums in honour of the Ukraine and Ukrainians.
“Sun” a great Stoner/Shoegaze/Heavy Psych album by Somali Yacht Club.
Why would a Ukrainian band name themselves after “the real-life pirates who attack vessels off the Somali coast and the peaceful leisure of those with time to kill and money to burn”? Go figure!
