Ironically, whilst looking for albums by 70s psychedelic band Jericho Jones (see my post in the "Favourite Albums from the Late 60s nd Early 70s" stream), I came across this really good, current Australian band with the same name and their album "Soil and Seed".
AMG says "San Cisco's Between You and Me is full of honest, vulnerable emotion, but through it all there is a comfortable sense of self-assuredness. Above and beyond the songcraft, maybe it's that relaxed confidence that makes the album so charismatic."
I listened to my LP of this last night, first time I'd played it in decades. I'd forgotten how good it is, much of it heavily jazz influenced, especially the playing of a young Jon Almond. Obviously some blues too.

Back in high school, I had a freeform radio show on a station here in Dallas. It was a regular gig and sometimes I would fill-in for the people who couldn't do their shows on a certain night (or sometimes just wouldn't show up for their show at all). So, after an overnight shift filling in for someone else, a guy named Walter Brock hadn't shown up for his morning shift. I'd already had been on air all night and I wasn't about to work another shift (plus I had to be in school in something like an hour).
Anyway, slightly pissed, I took the lazy way out and grabbed "The Turning Point" and put it on to play straight thru with a station ID during the flip-over of the LP. It's a live album and a good, continuous concert.
Well, Walter finally showed up about a half-hour into the album. He had been listening in his car on the way over - and he just let loose screaming at me because I was not only playing a classic rock album (a term that didn't exist then, but you know what I mean), but that I was playing it completely thru. He was screaming things like "We don't do things like that here at this station - that's for those rock stations" meaning that we were too cool and hip that we didn't do what they do at those BIG rock radio stations. Yes, today, the FCC doesn't allow you to do that, but it wasn't a problem in those days.
Screaming ensued - mostly me saying that people need to show up for their shows and him ranting about the uncool aspects of playing something so common as that John Mayall album. I still like that album, but that encounter is so drilled into my memory.
I was dropping off some pre lockdown clothes that we no longer need this morning, so inevitably started looking through the CDs. Most were 3 for £1 - shows how the market for CDs has dropped. Converesly most LPs were way more expensive. For example, Neil Diamond's Jazz Singer was £16.99 (I did not buy!!)
This was one CD I did buy. Cher was at the peak of her disco era, a good CD if you like this sort of thing (which Mrs greg does), at 33p (about 40 cents) worth a buy
Peaceful nights spent reading with the cats sleeping nearby is my 2023 jam. Some of tonight's line-up are (more) Red Garland Trio, Dizzy Reece, and Bill Evans.
