Found alot of good recs in this thread. I have been enjoying the recent eMu additions from the Kronos Quartet, especially the Thelonius Monk album, although the Bill Evans tribute is good too.
I apologize for being BBCode ignorant. This morning I was back to Yo La Tengo's Popular Songs. Amazing for how many years they've been doing their thing that they still kick out great albums. The Kick Your Ass album had individually solid songs, but it was strictly playlist fodder for me while this one can be enjoyed on the whole.
Thanks to selfrisinmojo, I dloaded Tonton Macoute from eMu and was thrilled. Might I also recommend Spring? A bit less jazzy, ethereal, but still a great listen. I think I am going to dig out some old Canterbury-style brit-prog albums.
Listening to The PAwnborker's Wife right now. Sounds good - I hadn't listened to any Dowd before. He sounds like a lost member of the Residents, with occasional nods to John Prine.

I have the Westfauster coming through now. I had 23 credits left, both are 12 credit with "album only" pricing. The label Akarma / Believe Digital has a number of items that I have either dloaded or have on my SFL (Elmer Gantry's Velvet Opera, for one..!)
Excellent stuff that reminds me of Steve Reich very early works like "Different Trains" and "Come Out"
- And with very interesting recording info:
The PRISM Quartet celebrates Dutch avant pop composer JacobTV (a.k.a. Jacob Ter Veldhuis, b. 1951) on their newest Innova disc. Scored for saxophone and ghettoblaster, the music on Pitch Black features spoken word by jazz icons Billie Holiday and Chet Baker, death row inmates, and religious fanatics in Times Square. TV started as a rock musician and studied composition and electronic music at the Groningen Conservatoire, where he was awarded the Dutch Composition Prize in 1980. Preoccupied with American media and apocalyptic moralism, he makes superb use of electronics in compositions that combine explosive strength and raw energy with intricate architectural design.
The title track alludes to Chet Bakers description of the prison cell he occupied in 1962. The saxophone quartet accompanies excerpts from an interview conducted shortly before his death. Billie, for alto saxophone and ghettoblaster, samples many interviews given by the singer and highlights the unusual musicality of her everyday speech. The somber quartet Postnuclear Winterscenario No.10 addresses speechlessness about war and devastation. In contrast, Grab It! is a fast-paced duet between tenor saxophone and ghettoblaster that explores profound emotional contrast among men on death row. The Garden of Love, for ghettoblaster and soprano sax, is composed around a reading of the poem by William Blake. The final track, Jesus is Coming, for saxophone quartet and ghettoblaster, juxtaposes recordings of an angry street evangelist and a Salvation Army choir with rhythmic patterns based on baby talk.
Pitch Black forms the soundtrack to a multimedia production of the same name that PRISM developed with Philadelphias Miro Dance Theater. In this evening-length performance, the citys energy and sounds, from traffic patterns to playground games, fuel a search for human connection amid the hustle. - Innova.
On top of all this, PQ is a team of excellent sax players. PRISM Quartet
You know who sings like an angel, is Alison Krauss, that's who. Or if not, then angels got a raw deal. That is Tony Furtado bending the strings on this Lennon-McCartney tune. You will have to 'scuse the cheesy video.
thanks Thom for bringing up Comets On Fire-Blue Cathedral a while back.
Some how these guys strike the right balance between irritating noise and enjoyability...
it's refresh time again and
they fit nicely into my current wig of recapturing my youth by dressing it up in louder, uglier, but ultimately more satisfying versions of itself.
i'll be downloading some stuff from their Avatar release also.
I will round out and pretty much deplete with the release by "Birth"; thanks Kargatron

Edward Ka-Spel - Trapped in Amber / Christmas on the Moon
- This is Edward at his vey best in his more quiet/ambient mood... A really gorgeous and breathtaking album.
(2 credits in Europe)
Edward Ka-Spel is the founder of The Legendary Pink Dots together with Philip Knight (aka. Silverman) and is also involved with The Tear Garden together with Kevin Key from Skinny Puppy.
Sometimes I get so hung up on finding new music I forget about other great releases from the past few years. Trying to rectify that.
The samples for that Edward Ka-Spel sounded interesting so it's d/ling now. 2 nps in the U.S., too.
I've realized that this is the perfect music for writing a nasty letter to another attorney. Puts me in just the right mood.

It's a grey Wednesday, cold and wet, and the house is empty; for some reason this album is adding some cheer and warming me up a little.
