Actually decided to go with some stand-up, Patton Oswald's Werewolves and Lollipops. Picked up one of his other albums, My Weakness is Strong, on eMusic many moons ago. Great to have some stand-up for long road trips.
Another Google throwdown - noticed what seemed like a pattern at Amazon and sure enough - it's a R&B Royalty Sale. I must fess up and say that most of these people aren't what I like to think of as R&B - to me it's always been a 50's/60's thing - Louis Jordan, The Treniers, most of the artists thought of as Soul, etc. but somehow the name got carried over.
Anyhow, just got the Temps comp for $1.99, thanks so much for the code cw00.
Thank you cw00 for the code. I just downloaded Ben Webster Meets Oscar Peterson for $4.99. At only 36 minutes it's fairly brief in duration, but wonderful listening. I don't know why I didn't get this long ago.
Can't vouch for its quality, but if anyone needs another collection of really cheap random classical music under a dubious marketing banner, Classical Music for the Reader 4: Great Masterpieces for the Dedicated Reader is $0.99 for 25 tracks of classical music that allegedly work well as background music for reading.
The latest batch of $5 albums. A little stronger than usual, incl latest Trampled by Turtles, Rodrigo y Gabriela, and Shearwater. And I honest to God may not be able to pass up Live Bullet, considered by my 16-yr-old self to be one of the greatest albums ever. If this recording of "Get Out of Denver" doesn't do it for you, you may not like rock and roll.
...Except at course at 7digital, where it's $5, as are new Santigold, Norah Jones, George Harrison, Spiritualized, and others. Amazon has officially withdrawn from the low ground.
Well here's an oddity. All the Chopin nocturnes, it says, but in one track with a length of 1:04. There's no clue who the performer is, either. I suppose, though, that for just $0.89 you can't go too far wrong.
I got the weekly Google play email today, live albums are on sale for $3.99, including Marley's Bus to Babylon and Frampton Comes Alive. I am the only late 70's kid who didn't own those two, but I was hoping to see Amazon price match them. As of this evening, that has not happened yet.
There is another Rolling Stones live show, LA Friday Live 1975, 25 tracks, quite a deal if you dig 1970's Stones, and who doesn't? I bought it from Google since it will likely not be at Amazon.
The other special of the week is "Country Women," mostly things I would not listen to, but I did notice an Allison Krauss "greatest hits" type collection. Are there any ugly women doing country music these days? By golly, I am going to have to clear my cache.
Pavilion of Dreams by Harold Budd - it's only 4 tracks, but this looks to be a sale price; two of the tracks are priced at $2.99 each. No idea if this is part of some sale or just random.
@doofy - they must have gotten your note because if I'm not mistaken most (all? I didn't scroll that far) of the $5 new releases at 7dig are now magically $5 at Amazon. Another low blow from the 600 pound gorilla - bless it's little heart.
Veddy interesting - especially since I did *not* tweet that to their attention. But I did quote their tinyurl, wonder if it's possible they traced that back to eMusers?
No kidding...ho hum. I'm forcing myself to resist this irresistible bargain, as I already have such a glut of great classical music that doesn't get listened to/appreciated as much as it should. Great that Naxos puts together collections like this - a welcome corrective to all those "100 Most Essential" things.

Yeah, me too, but I have been listening to more of it lately, and as far as gluts go in certain genres, classical being one, classic jazz and blues others, having watched the devolution of eMu and accompanying price increases, there and elsewhere, I'm kind of like a squirrel gathering nuts against the winter, or just nuts, I dunno, but I figure when the price is too damned high i can just sit back in plenty.
The nefarious Bach Guild at work again, eh? There is for me one slight problem when it comes to this composer -
FAMOUS CAT HATERS
Johannes Brahms - (1833 - 1897) One of Brahm's favourite forms of relaxation was to sit at an open window and attempt to kill neighbourhood cats with a bow and arrow
It looks like the Bach Guild is a subsidiary of Vanguard Records - does anybody know anything about these recordings? Not that I'm waiting around; I scooped it up, and the Haydn too.

Just another 5 hours of classical music - well, all right.

Well. you may say "attempt", counselor, but I heard things. I definitely heard things.
