Not a daily but I just found this tremendous 2 disc T-Bone Walker The Complete Imperial Recordings 1950-1954 is only $9.69 at Amazon, which BTW is about 60% of what eMu is asking.
Sorry, I thought it was a new one, but now I see it's been out since Feb. The 65 comments should have tipped me off. Many reviewers are disappointed...one shudders to think what a mediocre Yanni album sounds like!
Yanni - I have one Yanni album, Reflections of Passion. In the mid-90s, daughter and I were vacationing at Williamsburg, and one evening we drove down to Norfolk for a harbor cruise on the American Rover. It was a great cruise, way out in the harbor, also past the Naval Yards. After we docked, I asked the Captain about the music, and it was Yanni. When we got back to Williamsburg, I hit a record store and bought that cassette. Eventually, i got the CD. When I listen to that CD, I am back on that sailboat, cruising the harbor, breezes blowing.
New(ish) Randy Weston, 5 bucks. Had my eye out for this, as Randy's performing tonight here in Chicago tonight! Jonah sez in the AAJ thread that this has been getting great reviews, so I snagged it. (Though looks like tonight's show is not the Latin Jazz stuff on the new album.)
This month's Amazon deals seem to include many of the new albums discussed on this board in recent weeks...alt/indie fans in particular should take a look!
The September Jazz Sale has a lot of $5 MP3 albums I wouldn't mind getting if I didn't already have, and there are CD's on sale too - this 3 disc comp for $9.99 Classic Jazz 3-Pak just proves I'm a fool for shiny little discs, since I had to order it even though I probably have many of the songs already.
Not jazz - also plunked down $14.99 for this 3 disc set I mentioned in the 7digital thread - The Bullet Records Story - The First Americana Label, a post-war Nashville label, the material is part bluesy jazz/country&western/western swing. The MP3 version is over $17 at eMu, $9.99 at 7dig and was on the to-do list so I figured I'd go the extra 5 clams for the shiny discs.
Thanks, BT, will do.....
Just encountered this CD over there for $5.94 - Great Guitars Live - a steal for a single disc combo of what was two albums Great Guitars at the Winery, and ...at Charlie's,Georgetown. Featuring Barney Kessel, Herb Ellis & Charlie Byrd. Good stuff.
So here's a link for the September Jazz Sale. There's 11 pages of $5 MP3s, and on closer inspection I find there are at least 5 or 6 serious candidates, maybe more, I might be getting, especially releases from the Concord Group family which I am loath to download from eMu, and not to mention more than $5 there.
From the CD Box Set sale - if you've wondered about Django Reinhardt or wondered where to start, get on the bus here - this 5 disc JSP set Classic Early Recordings in Chronological Order is up for $15.99, and is a great set at an excellent price. There's also a JSP Louis Armstrong Hot Fives & Sevens box, and a Jelly Roll Morton box on sale.
A kettle full of something, I don't know exactly what yet, in Amazon's Classical department - the Menuetto Classics label - a whole series of 111 yadda yadda releases at $9.99, also 66 yadda for $6.99. Chasing other bones right now so have to come back later.
Opera, anyone - another meander - No particular ideas about these yet, other than they're cheap - Lohengrin, $2.97. Edit - I might go with the Past Classics Bayreuth version.
This one I'm excited to explore - Don Goivanni, $2.97, Krips/Vienna Philharmonic. Edit - No wonder I was excited -I already got it, and it sounds good.
Oh, hell, they seem to have the whole gamut of Past Classics operas that used to be at eMusic for 1-4 downloads, so if there were any you wished you had gotten they seem to be here. I got a number which I liked a lot, the Jussi Bjorling La Boheme being first among them.
A $7.99 Der Ring des Nibelungen. EDIT - see 7dig thread for $6.99 for same.
Thanks BigD - I don't often scamper after the classical recs, but I went to check out this list and there are some things I might sample, though there's certainly some caveat emptor merited. I wish there were more reviews as detailed on Amazon as this one (in French) for the $2.97 Die Walküre, which gives detailed information on origins and sound (and says it's very poor).
Had to laugh at the legend: "Album Savings: $147.44 compared to buying all songs". I also enjoy the fact that someone managed to write a highbrow classic with a track called "Wallala! Wallala! Lalaleia! Leialalei!" There's a voice in my mind saying I really ought to listen to Der Ring des Nibelungen before I die. There's another saying I'd never make it through.
They are right about that Die Walkure - sounds like it's been recorded off someone's old stereo, and unfortunately I already had it from the eMu days. I just got the Past Classics Lohengrin which sounds OK, and was listening to the Von Karajen/Schwarzkopf Marriage of Figaro just before and it was good. One never knows until you've heard the whole thing though. And, hey, the Ring is only 15 hours after all.

Thanks for the memory. It's a wonderful one.
Ummm......John Tesh?

Unless it includes some actual blood or something...
Seems like soundtracks are often album-only, prob. due to licensing issues.
