Yes, Katrina, I did edit my post above. I have not been able to find a free track of the day for a few days now. At first I thought I had just overlooked it, but I finally realized it was gone. Maybe they dropped it to help pay for the lowered prices of the Kindles.
It's starting to look to me as if they had a gradated strategy for pulling in a market for their MP3 services and creating download habits. The daily deals have been gradually getting more expensive as well.
@Katrina - I feel like the tracks are there, just not in a daily format. For example, a song from the new Wilco is there, just the type of thing to be a Free Song of the Day in the older format. There is a nice collection of free tunes, previous freebies and ones I do not remember seeing before in the "top free songs" section.
Yeah, there are still tons of free songs, and also quite a few free samplers I got by clicking on "Recommendations". Harumph. It is not the same as someone else choosing a song of the day for me. Now I have to waddle around through all the songs and it DOES NOT FEEL LIKE A RECORD STORE.
Maybe I should go read one of those emails they keep sending me....
@mommio, I couldn't notice your edit. I'm just glad I'm not being blind like I was before, when they put it all the way at the bottom.
Not Amazon, but Yep Roc is selling 5 of its new releases for $5 this week, one per day. "You can expect to see all-new releases from Fountains of Wayne [today], Sloan, Liam Finn, Dave Alvin and Gang of Four."
Amazon has added PBS content to its Amazon Prime streaming library. If I thought I could actually spend some time viewing it this would be pretty tempting stuff - historical programs, science/nature stuff - good for the brain and nice to look at in HD, what a combo. If I had a setup to stream to the living room TV yet I might go for it. Considering that the TV is in the same cabinet as my real stereo, pitifully isolated from all those yearning GBs of digital music trapped inside my computer this may just be a necessity on the horizon. Any opinions on sound quality from those using wireless networks out there? I am a little apprehensive about being horribly disappointed.
As far as a setup to stream to your tv, a Roku is one of the best purchases we ever made. I can't tell you about quality though - I'm still on a CRT tv, and all my music comes through earbuds.
Amazon just sent me an e-mail link to this deal of the day because I am a "customer who has shown an interest in music." Man, they have me figured out.
Nothing particular against Kelly, she's actually relatively listenable as Idols go. Interesting to note that this offer (for the mp3 download) is valid "while supplies last!"
But wait you can get it at eMu for $8.24! Say, that's not 25% less than Amazon, even with Booster Sales and extra credit. I'd say Amazon's got the brass knuckles on again. Wouldn't surprise me to see one or either of those releases on 7dig tomorrow for $5. Stealing a march on the opposition.
Thank you Rudie! When I was on the mp3 splash page the only listing was apparently the deluxe version which is $12.99. That was too rich for my blood, but I like $5.99.
I will give eMusic this, the Deluxe version is $9.74 there, so that beats Amazon.
"In Ted Dekker's chilling thriller, BoneMan's Daughters, a serial killer is on the loose, abducting young women, breaking their bones, and leaving them to die. New evidence points to the suspicion that intelligence officer Ryan Evans is BoneMan. Now the hunter is the hunted, and in the end, only one will stand."
November $5 albums. The usual indie, pop, and oldies suspects. Lots of good stuff of course, but would it kill them to have more than one jazz (no, Norah Jones doesn't count) and one classical pick?
Assume everybody on this board has Innervisions...if not, now's your chance to rectify that error.
I guess if you needed it $9.49 is not a bad deal for the Aqualung 40th Anniversary 2 disc download. I don't know, I'll listen to the bonus tracks later. Have to say my favorite Tull listening of recent years is the live Nothing Is Easy:Live At The Isle Of Wight 1970 - despite the occasionally uneven sound mix the band really was cooking. And t'will be tyme for The Christmas Album soon - an unexpected pleasure.
The Jethro Tull Christmas album was recommended on one of our Christmas music threads on eMu way back in 2007. I downloaded it then, and yes, unexpected pleasure were the words for me, too.
New release on MP3, not DOTD or anything, but we have questions, yes, questions ...Wish You Were Here, Floyd, the MP3 counterpart to Wish You Were Here - Experience blah blah or whatever it was called - disc 2 has live stuff. First off, I like Floyd and still listen to them on a fairly regular basis, but I didn't feel the need to run right out and get re-masters (unlike, say, The Beatles or Jimi Hendrix, but that's another story). So...
1. If you wanted the new remastered you'll just s**t yourself in its gloriosity sound after all these years why get an MP3 instead of a CD? Am I being too harsh? I just received this AM the CD remaster of Saucerful Of Secrets, the only Floyd album I didn't have a disc of, the only one I've bought since this batch has been released - if it convinces me, well maybe I stick another toe in the water.
2. What I do appreciate about the above release however, is that Amazon, unlike eMu, has no album only tracks - you can get just the bonus Disc 2 tracks if you like - of course, some of the long ones are more money, so it would cost almost as much as the entire album download if you got the whole disc. It is a nice touch to have the options.

Free track, nice to hear these guys again.

Blue Moods, Miles Davis, $3.61.
