Metacritic gives Mr Black a meh...., but I think it is a catchy, if somewhat minor album - certainly worth the $2.53 (92 cents real money) I paid for it.
The free single Symphonies is probably the best song on the album (so far).
Brighternow: That's (FFJ) nearly as bad as my infamous "Music for Chalkboard and 12 Pieces of Chalk" which has never been performed in its entirety nor with all 12 pieces of chalk, because people have better sense.
If you haven't done so, check out Angus and Julia Stone - Down the Way, which is currently a $5 special. It poignantly beautiful Folk-pop without the lameness that label implies.
The Blackshaw is awesome, I listened to that until my ears went numb when my daughter was born and I was up in the middle of the night for feedings and diaper changes. Looking forward to listening to the Walker and Blake.
I'm not sure what possessed me to purchase this yesterday (it's not very often that I pay more than $3.00 for any unknown-to-me groups that aren't first recommended by someone else): The Secret History - The World That Never Was
...but I'm listening to it now and I really like it.
I picked that up myself when it was about 15 cent a track, so it must have caught my ear - I'll have to give it a closer listen.
One that's been around for a while, but is still cheap is Elysian Field - bum Raps and Love Taps. Good stuff if you like 3 A.M. music - the lead singer sounds like a sexier version of Mazzy Star's Hope Sandoval.

I was able to snag a freebie, so it was certainly worth it for me.

I can't escape the thought that I might be responsible for his departure.
In a rec. for one of his priceless Beatles coverversions I wrote:
I hereby nominate mr. Van Kool as the 21. century's Florence Foster Jenkins.
He's on Facebook and Myspace
Edit:
Florence Foster Jenkins

;-)
I've got a great idea,
I think you should consider to team up with Judy Dunaway on Dildos and Bass Balloon and Tenor Balloon
- Btw, what does FFJ mean ?
Judy Dunaway: Balloon Music
@brighternow, everything you never needed to know about Florence Foster Jenkins. For the love of God, do not click on the sample.
- Not free anymore but still very cheap.
The James Blackshaw is just amazing.
The Dillinger Escape Plan's new album is around $3.
How can you go wrong with a "Christian" song by that name and performed by a couple people with the last name Danzig?
I don't think you can.

Waterboarding for Jesus indeed!
...but I'm listening to it now and I really like it.

Strange and quite charming.
