Under today's DDL (The Doors' LA Woman) is a link to a sale for Elektra's 60th Anniversary. Many (though not all) are about $5, mostly folk and blues from the 60s and 70s.
Like a lot of his stuff over the last few decades, it's got a few really good songs, and a bunch that aren't too bad. I've found that if you take the best 4 songs from each of his later albums, you can make a really strong album every 3rd or 4th album.
I got really turned off by ole Elvis Costello when he ranted that he'd never sell online because his art was supposed to be heard in the exact order he decided...
I'm really liking the new EC (Elvis, not Clapton). Very similar to the one just previous, but good grooves and the usually snarky lyrics.
As far as the new Clapton..........meeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. The man done got old and so did his musical vision. Buddy Guy's latest puts Clapton to absolute shame. Ab.Solute.Shame.
Thanks for posting that review, Doofy, I saw this offering in passing this AM but was too hurried to really contemplate, and would probably have forgotten. Now there's a chance I'll remember tonight.
2 disc worth of live Black Label Society Berserkus tour for $0.69, yes $0.69. Weird, but I'll go for that. And I confess, I had a moment of weakness for the $1.99 opus 99 Essential Christmas Masterpieces - hours of holiday music to do all those holiday thangs to.
Meanwhile, I stumbled across an unintended bargain: Freddie Hubbard's Straight Life. Just 3 bucks if you buy the individual tracks (not the "album price.")
PS, the new Aaron Neville still shows the 3.99 price.
There is also a free Christmas song every day at Amazon. Most of them are good EXCEPT Lada Gaga's is about getting laid, not Christmasy at all (other than the mention of getting laid under the Christmas tree, getting laid under the mistletoe, etc.)
Isn't that what Xmas is about .....ho-ho-hos? Word Up!
It has been a long time since I checked out the list of free albums. Downloaded this one today -- Paper Trails by The Benjy Davis Project. Not bad for a freebie! This might be something you would like, Katrina.
Edit: Just checked - The Benjy Davis Project is on eMu, but not the Amazon exclusive sampler, which seems to be taken from different albums.
I downloaded it while at the library, and I listened to some of it while something else was downloading. I have way too many unheard downloads in my music library -- and I'm talking eMu downloads. Not to mention recent 7digitals. I really need to stop, don't I? What's the point of getting all that music if it sits there unheard.
Reminds me of that saying - :The one who dies with the most {whatever} wins." I hear it most often in the context of sewing, quilting, and needlework, so the missing word could be fabric. Or yarn. Yeah, I have heard toys, too. I do have more than my share of those, but I can't compete with many people I know.
Are you guys album listeners, in that your unheard music stacks up? We smart smart-playlist users have those unheard tracks just automatically percolate into our master playlists. Atm I have a total of 44 unheard tracks, 1/7 of what I've added in the past month.
Karg, I use smart lists for pop stuff, it's fun. But most of the Amazon freebies wind up on my work computer, so I have to take the conscious step to put that stuff in my iTunes liberry. Especially with the samplers, they can languish on my hard drive for quite some time!
My other thing is that a lot of my pop listening happens at the gym, on my Gen1 shuffle, which doesn't have a readout. So I have actually lots of songs in my library that I recognize and like, but I don't know what they are! Of course this will be less of a problem now that Amie is gone. This is art-punk at its best. It's edgy and melodic and wonderful.
Meanwhile, don't look now but Brother Ray is back...again!

Beyonce is purty.
With EC, it's best to stick to pre-1987.....

Aaron sings gospel, Allen Toussaint on piano, works for me. Review.
